Jesse Tree (December 15)

December 15th

A Scroll

Scripture Reading:

Isaiah 53

Main Ideas:

700 years before Jesus was born, God revealed several things to Isaiah about the coming Messiah.  One of the most fascinating revelations was that the Shepherd was going to become the Lamb — our Last Lamb is the Great Shepherd!  What a trip!!

Edith Schaefer says it like this, “Could it be more clear?  The Messiah is to be the Lamb.  The Messiah is the one promised from the time of Eve and Adam.  The Messiah, promised to all the Jews from Abraham on, the one whom all the little lambs represented is to be the Lamb.  His atonement for the sins of the people is pointed forward to with crystal clarity now.  This is no mere man.  This one is to die for the people, as the only one who could do it, and He is to be Himself the Lamb.”

For Discussion:

What prophecies do you see fulfilled here in Isaiah 53?  (Christ would be rejected by men – verses 1-3, He would be silent before His accuser – verse 7; He would die for our sins; v. 4-6; He would die with the wicked – verse 12; He would be buried with the rich – verse 9; can you find any more?)
